The Taphouse

OOC: I have updated everyone's sidebar profiles to reflect the five experience points you each earned from defending the town. The goblins carried no money on them. Also, apologies again for the delay in getting this up.

As word spreads that the goblin attack has been repulsed, and that the city is safe again, people begin to return to the Market Square. The celebratory mood of the festival is gone, however, as night falls. The people are mournful that three members of the city guard were killed in the attack, and there are calls for vengeance.

Lord Warden Faren Markelhay is personally seeing to some of the injured around the square, doing his best to calm the population. Bramble and Calix are the first to arrive at the square, and it is not long before they are pointed out and Lord Markelhay approaches them, after they have gotten their ale in the taphouse.

"Good evening, sirs. I have heard tell of your brave defense of our city. Calix, you are known around these parts, but you, sir Halfling, are new to my eyes. What brings you to Fallcrest on this foul day?" the Lord asks of Bramble, as an ale is delivered to him.

Rathman: you make the rounds, and all is well. Your helpers are all accounted for and uninjured, and it appears the old wizard slept right through the entire battle!

Gault: clean-up moves along as swiftly as possible, and your superior soon relieves you of your duty for the evening. He was impressed with your bravery and skill today.

Sarhan: I assume you have made your way to your family, and you discover all is well with them.

  1. Time for Rath to make his way to the Taphouse ;)

  2. [OOC]Sorry for not posting, started new job. Should have post up this evening.[/OOC]

  3. OOC: no worries. I expect everyone will be a bit slow in posting with the holidays n such. It's that time of year.

  4. Sarhan checks in at home. A few of the younger ones are already asleep, worn out from the excitement of the evening and relieved that the danger is over. Despite his protests, his wife wipes his face with the edge of her apron and a little bit of spit.

Along the way, Sarhan learned that people are gathering in Market Square and he explains he is going to return there to find out what the attack was about and what the city plans to do about it. After kissing his wife, he slips out and heads to the square.

Once Sarhan arrives at the square, he'll seek out news. When he comes across Rathman, he asks, "Lad, what did you put in that wagon? My head still rings from that!" He shares the story of how Rathman almost blew the two of them sky-high and killed the goblins on the hilltop with everyone nearby who will listen.

  5. Calix spends most of his time in the square listening to the others' stories of horror and violence, relieved and surprised that so few had died.

When the Lord Warden approaches, he feels an irrational urge to creep away and blend into the crowd. It wasn't so long ago that the only way he would have met the Lord Warden would have been through iron bars.

Instead, he briefly meets the Lord Warden's eyes and mumbles something he hopes to be suitably humble. Then, after allowing Bramble to speak, he cannot help but interrupt to ask, "My Lord Warden, do we believe they will return?"

He recalls Father Quinlaven's warning, but decides that now might not be the perfect time to mention it.

  6. Bramble began, "My tribe was slaughter, not to long ago, just North of here by Gnolls...", but was interrupted by Calix. "Erm... My Lord..." he added when Calix had finished, as an after thought when he noticed he had missed that this man was of title.

"I was hoping that some of my kin had found shelter here, but it does not appear to be so. Strange that Gnolls attack to the North, and now this coming from the South. I hope to garner an adventuring party to track the Gnolls to the North... My Lord." he said.

'Perhaps this man could aid me with men or supplies,' he thought.

  7. Gault leaves the guardhouse and crosses the city which had so shortly before been in the midst of its merrymaking. Still filled with the sounds of the battle in his ears, he finds himself more determined than ever to find a way to rid the vale of the evil gangs.

Arriving at the appointed Taphouse, the guardsman orders himself an ale and asks after "A small halfling, new to the city ... this one will stand out, if you get my meaning"

Seeing Bramble talking to the Lord Warden, Gault takes his drink and approaches, trying to get some sense of which way the conversation is flowing before he interjects. "Gentlemen, I am pleased to have caught up with you."

  8. Bramble tipped his head to Gault, "Another defender from the onslaught." he said.

"We all did well today," he continued, turning to Calix with another nod. "But something is afoot, and it grows no hair," he finished, realizing that these Human probably wouldn't get the meaning of the saying his mother used to pass onto him.

Just then his pet reared its head. He produced the ferret and gave it a stern look before placing the mischievous creature on his shoulder.

"I was just proposing to Lord Warden, that there might be some connection between today's assaults. The one here, and the one on my village."

He lowered his head in sadness, 'Praise they be safe, he thought.

  9. Rath enters the Tavern and gets himself a pint of beer.

He asks of those nearby: "What were the casualties, and who?"

Then, more to himself he remarks: "More importantly, why? Why now? What has the buggers all worked up?"
