Goblin Attack!

OOC: Congrats Tenkar on tying the knot!

Also, apologies for taking my time getting this one up, but overtime has been kicking my butt. Anyways, back to the game.

@Bramble and Rathman: from your vantage points atop the cliffs overlooking Lower Fallcrest, you can see quite clearly that a few of the farmhouses on the other side of the river have been set ablaze! You can barely make out several green-skinned little bastards running around the area, wreaking havok in general. There are three quite large, lumbering hulks with them, making their way towards the river. You also spy half a dozen large wolves with goblin riders racing along the path, heading north. Behind you, you hear a horn call from the Five-Arch Bridge (number 3 on the map), which is the only way into town from the other side of the River Nen.

@Gault: the northern gate has been shut and secured. You hear a horn call from the Five-Arch Bridge, and a moment later sounds of combat erupt from that area!

@Calix: Father Quinlaven rushes towards the temple grounds, ushering nervous townfolk along with him to the relative safety of the temple. You also hear the horn call from the bridge, and can see combat between guards and goblins breaking out on the bridge!

@Sarhan: the Market Square has erupted in commotion. You also hear the horn from the bridge, but it is distant and almost lost in the sound of the waterfall. You can see black smoke rising across the river. Your wife manages to keep your family all together, for now. Your house and shop is in Upper Fallcrest, near number 19 on the map.

  1. [OOC: Congratulations Tenkar! I hope everything went without a hitch. :) /OOC]

Any relief Calix may have at seeing Father Quinlaven to safety is shattered with the sounds of battle.

Cursing in a very non-pious manner under his breath, he briefly contemplates letting the guards handle it alone. Then, as the cry of a wounded man reaches his ears, he knows that he has to at least try and help.

Moving down the street and sticking close to the buildings for cover, Calix attempts to discern the exact number of goblins in the fight and how well Fallcrest's finest are holding up.

  2. 'Let us see how well these green skins do without their mounts...', Bramble thought as he turned and headed North, North-west through the buildings.

He hoped to make it to an advantage point within range of this side of the bridge...

'Possibly someplace high?' he thought as he examined the building he passed.

If he couldn't perch on a roof, he would attempt to find a spot where he could put his back to a wall, cast out his caltrops, and shoot the beasts as they advanced.

'Assuming the locals don't mop them up before I gets there,' he thinks with a chuckle.

  3. Sarhan follows his family as his wife leads the way through the press. He hears people yelling out for their children. He sees some running this way and that. Others look towards the smoke, their eyes filling with tears. "Gods be good..." he prays to himself.

As his youngest Eleyana starts to fall behind, he scoops her up in his arms. Amid the chaos of the green, dodging folks, he starts breathing heavy with the effort of keeping up while carrying her.

  4. (ooc: I couldn't have asked for a better weather, ceremony or reception - let alone bride ;)

Ack! Make plans for one problem and yet another arisies Rathman thinks to himself.

"Right. New plan. Every banger, every noisemaker, everyflashbang gets lit NOW! Iffn we can spook the wolves we may yet have a chance!" Rath says to himself outloud, unsure if his assistants are still around, or if they followed his previous orders and fled.

  5. Gault feels a moment of fear when he hears the blare of the horns call. He takes one more look to make sure that the gate is secure, that he hasn't forgotten anything.

Gault then turns, pushes down any feelings he can manage, and runs towards the sound of fighting at the bridge.

  6. @ Calix: From where you are in the street, you can see the fighting on the bridge, but cannot determine the number of participants.

@ Bramble: You manage to scurry up to the top of a single story building close to the bridge. The limit of your range with your bow is about the near edge of the bridge; you may fire at anyone coming through the bridge entryway, which is a large stone tower. From your vantage point, you can see half a dozen goblins in melee combat with three Fallcrest guards, and the goblins are steadily forcing them back across the bridge. You can also see, across the river, the first of the worg-riding goblins preparing to charge his way across the bridge!

@ Sarhan: As you help your family amidst the chaos, you hear a nasty pair of squeals overhead, growing louder and louder by the second, and suddenly in a cloud of dust and a thud land a pair of goblins, some thirty feet from you. One of the goblins rolls into the landing and immediately finds his feet, while the other lands in a heap and is clearly dazed. The one on his feet snarls, pulls out a pair of nasty-looking daggers, and jumps at the closest passer-by, narrowly missing as the woman runs off screaming.

@ Rathman: you shout your orders, and turn around to find just one of the boys left, and he is too scared stiff to move. He has also wet his pants.

@ Gault: as you head toward the bridge, you pass Calix and can see the melee happening on the bridge. Suddenly you see one of the guards fall, pierced with a spear, and the other pushed over the side into the rushing river! Four goblins on foot are rushing towards you, and you can see a worg-rider not far behind them!

  7. Bramble, seeing a quartet of Goblins charging the one he met earlier at the gate, knocked an arrow and pulled the string of his shortbow back to his cheek.

He felt the bow's tension on the string bite into his fingers...

'The thrill of the hunt,' he thinks as he looses the arrow to its chaotic end, pulling another before the shaft reaches it's mark...

[OOC-assuming I could see the events unfold, from Bramble's vantage point, to Gault's arrival. Correct? Also, I would not be opposed to DM dice rolling, as migrating to another site for rolling kinda breaks my train of thought for post writing... just throwing that out as a possible suggestion.]

  8. Hopelessly outnumbered, Gault looks around to see what building or shelter he can fall back to.

'This could be the end right here,' thinking the worst Gault will retreat behind the comfort of his shield with his Spear held to counter a charge by one of the goblins.

  9. Sarhan's eyes widen. "How in the hell are they getting inside the city?" he thinks to himself. He looks to the sky to determine what these goblins rode in on.

He certainly can't outpace goblins while carrying Eleyana, so he quickly looks back to them to see if they've seen him or his family. He also looks around for anyone noticing the goblins arrival and maybe confronting them, but is afraid that anyone who is armed is likely at the wall.

  10. Watching the melee, Calix swallows down the familiar taste of stark terror and hefts his mace, wishing he had his old makeshift shield with him now. He'd knocked heads before in teenage brawls, but he'd never seen real combat. He only hoped he wouldn't end his life at the point of a goblin spear.

Seeing the goblins approach Gault, Calix moves forward, trying not to imagine this as the hopeless last action of foolish would-be cleric. "Corellon watch over me!" he mutters, not holding out much hope.

If possible he will make it to Gault's side, mace at the ready. Should any of the goblins attack, he will swing at the nearest.

[OOC: Rolled a 13 for my attack roll and a 3 for my damage, should one of the little buggers get too close. /OOC]

  11. Looking down at the events unfolding below him, Bramble parses one thought as he watches another approach the guard he had met earlier.

'They have lived too long within the confining walls of a city, at least this one (OOC: Refering to Caxil) is armed - and at the ready.

He prepared for another attack to stop the Goblin infestation by knocking an arrow to the string of his bow...

  12. 'Maybe the Werks join' off will snap the lad outa it' Rathman thinks to himself.

Rath sets out lighting the loudest, splashiest Werks first, in the general direction of the nearest wolf riders. He hopes that the cliff walls will accentuate the sounds, and make more effective.

When he gets the chance, he'll try and move the poor lad to someplace safer, like under a bush nearby ;)
