Goblin Attack! Round 3

OOC: thanks for the heads-up Jake. I imagine it will be a bit difficult for everyone to post in a timely manner during the chaos of the holiday season. We will soldier on, patiently ;)

The bridge is quite stationary, and does not raise up. On the western bank is a guardhouse with a portcullis that is, at the moment, wide open.

@ Sarhan: You can see the steely resolve in Myra's eyes, and the concern for your safety, but she does as you direct. You head off for the switchback; the goblins are headed up the other path, towards the staircase that is carved into the side of the cliff. You will most certainly require a couple of rounds to arrive at the top of the cliff.

@ Gault: Your spear pierces straight through the attacking goblin's chest, and as you rip it out of the beast it collapses to the ground. The other goblin attacks you just before you can turn on it, but it misses wildly (granting you +2 to your next attack against it!)

@ Calix: the worg-riding goblin bears down on you! You strike its flank as it rushes past you, shaking it enough that it comes to a halt and turns on you! The goblin raises a crude spear over its head and throws it at you! Fortunately, it is a wobbly throw, and falls harmlessly on the ground a few feet away from you. The worg growls and prepares to pounce...

@ Bramble: You manage to line up a shot as the worg stops and turns on Calix. You release just as the goblin tosses a spear at the mace-wielding cleric, and your arrow flies true, knocking the goblin clear off the worg and into the dirt, quite dead with an arrow through its neck.

@ Rathman: The next firewerk you shoot off also explodes in the same general area as the previous one, making it difficult for the goblins there to get a handle on their worg mounts. The one in front, however, without a rider, gets spooked enough to run straight for the bridge and into town!

  1. "Can you get to the portcullis?!" Bramble screamed down to the Cleric as he drew and knocked another arrow before firing down at the Worg.

Trying to stop them once they are already in the city is futile, he thought...

[OOC] Shortbow +6 to hit, 1d6+3 (3rd arrow shot this round, 17 remaining)

I am losing what monsters and players are where. I will do up a map if you would like, if you can send me an update on live/dead opponents and characters. [/OOC]

  2. OOC: Yeah, I could probably do a better job of describing the locations and exact tactical information, and will try to do so in the future.

At the moment, Calix and Gault are in the street that extends from the bridge into Upper Fallcrest. There is one goblin and a worg attacking them, and a few dead goblins on the ground. There are two goblins (one dead, one dazed) near the bridge. Bramble is still up on the roof of the building just south and east of the entry to the bridge in Upper Fallcrest, with an excellent view of the bridge and the street. Rathman is near the cliff near the number 15 on the map. Sarhan is running towards the western switchback path up the cliff, which should get him up the cliff before the goblins, but he will be hard-pressed to make it to Rathman before the goblins do.

  3. Calix snaps his head up as the goblin falls dead in front of him. He see the halfling from earlier and feels a surge of renewed hope. Things might seem dire, but when even strangers stand ready to fight, all cannot be lost.

Seeing the halfling's gesture and making out most of what he shouts over the din of battle, Calix nods vigorously. Seeing that Gault is holding his own against the goblin, he calls out, "I am going for the gatehouse!" With luck, the guard could finish his foe and join him in short order.

He charges toward the gatehouse, hoping to avoid the fangs of the Worg as he does so (should Bramble not succeed in felling the beast).

[OOC: If it is at all possible for Calix to reach the gatehouse in one turn, he will do so, using Full Defense (+2 to AC), to get inside and try to lower the gate. If the goblin bars his path, Calix will instead attack it this turn (at his usual +1-to hit).

Also, my own apologies for the delay in posting. The start of Thanksgiving week has been a little more crazy than I predicted. /OOC]

  4. OOC @ Calix: the guardhouse is on the western side of the bridge, which means you must run all the way across the bridge to the other side. From where you stand in the street, you can see a worg (with no goblin rider) charging across the bridge toward you! Will that still be your plan of action?

Also, no worries about slow posts this week. I'm certain the holiday season will slow things down for everyone here. No rush for posts.

  5. Gault presses directly over the corpse of the dead goblin into the defense of the next creature.

Using his spear he tries to pin it to the ground beside the first.

  6. Rathman continues using the weeks to the best effect he can while they last. At the same time, he tries to sort out a few that would be more effective at close range, for the inevitable self defense.

  7. [OOC: Ah, okay, I thought the Worg was already at my side and I'd have to scramble away from it.

In that case, no, I revise my previous suicide rush to include a pause and attack on the charging Worg. I'll try to get across the bridge next turn--if I'm not Worg chow ;) .

Rolling the dice and amending my moves... /OOC]

Seeing the riderless Worg charge, Calix draws in a deep breath and rushes headlong to meet it, hoping the momentum will help lend strength to his blow.

  8. OOC: Oops. Thought we were dealing wit a single Worg and Goblin up at the bridge. Tracking 2 Worgs (one below me and a Goblin - not mounted - and another Worg across the bridge) now! Hopefully my arrow and Calix's blow will do in the Worg and Gault takes out the Goblin.

  9. OOC: Right, there is a worg and a goblin in the street, fighting Calix and Gault and having arrows rained down from Bramble above. There is another spooked worg charging across the bridge. There are two goblins running for the stairs up the cliff, and two more that just landed in town. Gault will be attacking the goblin, Calix and Bramble will attack the worg in the street, Rathman is firing off more werks, and Sarhan is still running towards Upper Fallcrest.

I should be able to do some dice rolls and get the proper write-up in the next post later this evening.
