  1. Didn't know if I should post here or in the last thread... anyway, shouldn't my Shortbow be +5 to hit?

+1 PCB, +2 Halfling Bonus, +2 Dexterity Bonus?

    Just wondering.

  2. Actually, upon further review, you also get a +1 to hit and damage from being a ranger, so your total to hit with your shortbow is +6, and I have updated the sidebar to reflect this.

  3. So wouldn't "Dagger +1 to hit, 1d4+1" then be "Dagger +2 to hit, 1d4+1"?

+1 PCB, +1 Ranger to hit, +1 Ranger to Damage

I don't know, I am just pointing the above out as I discover small nuances of the game, but it appears that the RAW make some pretty powerful first level characters. Especially when you considered my base stat rolls.

I wonder how this will play out and if other incarnations of M20 have similar results when building characters, as I have never noticed it before.

  4. Whoops! I'd made a little mistake in mine. I'd meant to swap my STR with my CHA and forgot to do so. If the stats aren't final, I'd like to do that (making my CHA 16 (+2) and my STR 10 (0) also altering my starting HP to be 16). Otherwise it looks good to me. :)

I've also decided to take Pack C, some leather armor, a mace, and a shield. That leads to one more question: Are we using the base armor (light, medium, heavy) or the secondary armor score listed in brackets on the item list? At base I'd have an AC of 15.

  5. @the Bane: You are certainly correct, and I will edit that when I get home from work this evening (it's not very friendly to edit on my phone).

I agree that 1st level characters seem pretty powerful off the bat, especially directly compared to OD&D characters, and I definitely noticed it on my first read-thru. I think it has more to do with the balancing act between the d20 SRD that Microlite is based on and the old-school sensibilities. This is my first time with the Microlite system, so I'm still getting the hang of it as well.

@Joe: no problem, I'll edit that this evening as well.

Also, we will be using the AC modifiers on the equipment list, as well as the damage dice for weapons listed on the equipment list

  6. @Sully: This is not my first game of M20, though I really haven't played that many games of it, but this version seems to pump the 1st level characters more than most. I don't seem to recall having the same impression when I made a 'standard' M20 character in the past. Not to mention that I really wasn't trying to min/max my character, but looking at the character sheet, I feel like it could be construed that I did... I guess I will just have to see what I think of it after a few levels.

  7. @The Bane: this is all definitely going to be an interesting experiment, for sure. I'm still grokking all the M74 rules, and my plan is to let the dice fall where they may. I guess we'll see how your characters all stand up to the encounters they find themselves in.

Also, do you have an ETA on next thread?

    The Bane
